Installing and Configuring the Friday Kiosk App #

This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of setting up your Android tablet as a dedicated Friday Kiosk. Following these steps ensures the screen stays active while charging and prevents users from navigating away from the app.

Enable Developer Options #

To ensure the kiosk screen never times out while plugged in, you must first unlock the developer menu.

1. Open Settings on your Android tablet.
2. Scroll to the bottom and select About Tablet.
3. Tap Software Information.
4. Find the Build Number and tap it seven (7) times rapidly until a message appears saying, “You are now a developer!”
5. Go back to the main Settings menu and select the newly visible Developer Options.
6. Toggle on Stay Awake.

> Note: This prevents the screen from turning off as long as the device is connected to a charger.

Security & Pinning Setup #

Before installing the app, you need to configure the device’s security settings to allow “App Pinning.”

1. Set a Device PIN:

– Go to Settings > Lock Screen.
– Tap Screen Lock Type and select PIN.
– Create a secure PIN (you will need this to exit the kiosk mode later).

– In the Settings search bar, type “Pin.”
– Select Pin Windows (or “App Pinning” depending on your version).
– Toggle the setting to On.

App Installation & Login #

1. Open the Google Play Store.
2. Search for Friday Kiosk (look for the app with the green background).
3. Download and install the app.
4. Open the app and log in using an Admin’s company email and password.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts to select your specific company and complete the initial configuration.

Locking the Kiosk (App Pinning) #

Once the app is set up, you need to “lock” it to the screen so users cannot close it or access other tablet functions.

1. With the Friday Kiosk app open, tap the Recents button (the icon with three vertical lines at the bottom of the screen).
2. Locate the Friday Kiosk app window and press and hold the app icon at the top of the preview.
3. Select Pin this app from the menu.

The tablet is now ready for use. It will remain on the Friday Kiosk screen indefinitely as long as it is connected to power.
