How to Enable Geofencing for Employees (Mobile App Only) #

This guide explains how to enable Geofencing for employees using the Friday mobile app. Geofencing allows you to restrict where employees can clock in and out based on a specific location.

Enable Company-Wide Geofencing {audience: admin} #

  1. Log in to the Admin Portal.
  2. Click Settings (bottom-left of the portal).
  3. Select Company Settings.
  4. Click Geofencing.

Configure Geofencing Settings {audience: admin} #

Under Geofencing Settings, you will see three options:

  • Block: Prevents employees from clocking in or out if they are outside the allowed location.
  • Notify: Allows employees to clock in or out but notifies the admin if they are outside the allowed location.
  • Both: Blocks the clock-in/out and sends a notification to the admin.

Select the option that best fits your company’s needs.

Set Geofencing Locations {audience: admin} #

  1. Under Geofencing Locations, the default setting is Everywhere, meaning employees can clock in from any location.
  2. To restrict locations, click the + (Plus) button.
  3. Enter the address you want to allow (for example, an office or job site).
  4. Set the radius:

– A smaller radius enforces stricter location accuracy.
– A larger radius is recommended for bigger job sites or areas.

  1. Click Save Location.

Once saved, geofencing is enabled company-wide.

Enable Geofencing for Specific Employees Only {audience: admin} #

If you want to apply geofencing to specific employees instead of the entire company:

  1. Go to Team from the left-hand menu.
  2. Click on the employee’s name.
  3. Scroll down to Time Settings.
  4. Locate the Geofencing section.
  5. Click the + (Plus) button.
  6. Select the desired geofencing location.
  7. Click Save.

This will restrict clock-ins for that employee only.

Important Notes #

  • Geofencing applies to the mobile app only.
  • Employees must have location services enabled on their mobile devices.
  • Using a properly sized radius helps prevent clock-in issues caused by GPS inaccuracies.
