Getting Business Insurance with Coverdash in Friday #
This guide covers Coverdash business insurance inside Friday — also called the Insurance page. Users may search for workers’ compensation, workers comp, WC, business insurance, general liability, BOP, cyber insurance, professional liability / E&O, commercial auto, certificate of insurance / COI, Broker of Record / BOR, pay-as-you-go workers’ comp, or insurance quotes.
Friday partners with Coverdash so company admins can compare quotes, purchase policies, connect an existing policy, and manage coverage from Friday. Only company admins see Insurance in the left-hand menu; employees and contractors do not.
What is Coverdash? #
Coverdash is a digital insurance platform that connects businesses with top-rated carriers. In Friday, Coverdash powers the Insurance page so admins can get tailored quotes and buy coverage without leaving the admin portal. Coverdash surfaces options across 30+ carriers.
Coverdash vs SmartPay #
These are different products:
- Coverdash (Insurance page): Shop business insurance quotes, buy coverage, or connect an existing policy (Broker of Record / BOR). After your company has processed payroll, workers’ compensation quoting may use Coverdash’s pay-as-you-go flow (premiums designed to follow payroll rather than one large estimated annual bill).
- SmartPay: A separate workers’ compensation wage reporting integration for companies that already have a carrier policy and need payroll wage data sent to SmartPay / the carrier. SmartPay setup is carrier-specific and is not done on the Insurance page.
If you need help setting up SmartPay for a specific carrier, ask about SmartPay setup for that carrier — not Coverdash.
Where to find Insurance #
- Log in to the Friday Admin Portal (web app).
- In the left-hand menu, click Insurance (it may show a NEW tag).
- You land on the Insurance page, powered by Coverdash.

Coverage types you can explore #
Under Explore comprehensive coverage options your business needs, you can start a quote or connect an existing policy for:
- General Liability — third-party bodily injury, property damage, and lawsuits.
- Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) — bundled general liability, commercial property, and business interruption.
- Workers’ Compensation — medical expenses and lost wages for employees injured on the job; required by law in most states.
- Cyber Insurance — data breaches, ransomware, and related costs.
- Professional Liability (E&O) — claims of negligence or failure to deliver professional services.
- Commercial Auto — business vehicles and drivers; this card starts a consultation (not an instant quote flow).
How to get a quote #
From Insurance:
- Choose how to start:
– At the top, click Get My Workers’ Comp Quote if Friday is prompting you for workers’ compensation after payroll, or Get Your Free Quotes for a general quote start.
– Or on a coverage card, click Get a Quote (for Commercial Auto, click Book a Consultation instead).
- Answer the business questions Coverdash shows (business type, employees, payroll, location, and related details).
- Review personalized quotes from carriers.
- Select a policy and complete purchase to start coverage.
- Return to Insurance to see active policies, download a digital COI, and manage coverage.
You can leave an embedded Coverdash flow with ← Back to insurance and resume later from Applications in progress when shown.
Workers’ compensation and pay-as-you-go #
Workers’ compensation is legally required in most states for businesses with employees. Friday may highlight this on Insurance and after payroll.
When pay-as-you-go applies #
If your company has processed payroll in Friday and you do not already have a workers’ comp policy on file, workers’ compensation quotes use Coverdash’s pay-as-you-go experience. Premiums are designed to follow payroll rather than a single large estimated annual bill.
If you have not processed payroll yet (or are still in early setup), workers’ compensation uses the standard quotes experience instead.
After you run payroll #
After a successful payroll, Friday may show: Workers’ comp is required in [your state]. You can:
- Get a quote — opens Insurance and starts the workers’ comp quote / pay-as-you-go flow.
- Upload existing policy — opens Insurance and starts connecting an existing policy (BOR upload).
- Not now — dismisses for now. Check Don’t show this again before Not now if you do not want this prompt after future payrolls.
Onboarding opt-in #
During company onboarding, Friday may show a Workers’ Compensation step describing pay-as-you-go benefits (payroll-tied premiums, smaller per-cycle amounts, simpler reconciliation). You can Opt in & Finalize at First Payroll or Skip for now. Opting in prepares Coverdash for your company; you finalize coverage around first payroll / Insurance.
How to connect an existing policy (Broker of Record) #
If you already have coverage and want to keep it — or compare it — you can connect the policy to Friday through Coverdash with a Broker of Record (BOR) change.
From Insurance, on the coverage card you care about:
- Click Connect Existing Policy →.
- Complete the Coverdash BOR upload / connection steps for that policy type.
- Use ← Back to insurance when finished. Connected policies can appear under Your Active Policies once Coverdash has them on file.
You can still get new quotes to compare rates even if you have an existing policy.
How to resume an application in progress #
From Insurance, in Applications in progress (right side on desktop):
- Find the application.
- Click Resume Application >.
Workers’ compensation note: Resuming workers’ compensation starts a fresh Coverdash application (and uses pay-as-you-go when that flow applies). Other policy types reopen the existing application submission.
How to book a free consultation #
From Insurance:
- Click Book a Free Consultation or View availability → in the Coverdash specialists card, or on a coverage card (for example Commercial Auto) click Book a Consultation.
- Complete the Coverdash scheduling flow. Calls average about 15 minutes; specialists may be available the same day.
- Use ← Back to insurance when done.
Managing active policies and downloading a COI #
Active Coverdash policies appear under Your Active Policies on Insurance. Policy cards show type, status, carrier, policy number, dates, and premium when available.
- Click Download COI to open your digital certificate of insurance (enabled when a COI link is available).
- Click Get More Help for Coverdash policy help, claims, and changes (when available for that policy).
Who to contact for support #
- Claims, policy changes, coverage questions, and policy servicing: Coverdash live support (24/7). Use Get More Help on an active policy card, or work with your Coverdash account manager.
- Friday product / payroll / how to use the Insurance page: Friday support at support@fridayapp.com.
Friday does not replace your insurance carrier or Coverdash for claims decisions.
Job classifications (NCCI) when inviting employees #
If your company has workers’ compensation context in Friday, inviting or setting up employees may ask for a job classification (NCCI class code). Admins can search by job description (for example “cashier”) for the company’s state. Accurate classifications help workers’ compensation quoting and reporting; they are not the same as buying a policy on the Insurance page.
