Applied for Tax Parameters Report #
Overview #
The Applied for Tax Parameters Report identifies company tax registrations or account numbers that are currently marked as Applied For.
A tax parameter is marked Applied For when a company has submitted an application to a federal, state, or local tax agency but has not yet received the required account number, registration number, or tax rate.
This report helps companies identify missing tax information that still needs to be provided to Friday.
What Does “Applied For” Mean? #
Applied For means the company has already applied with the applicable tax agency but is still waiting to receive the required information.
Examples include:
- State withholding account number
- State unemployment account number
- Local tax account number
- Paid family leave account number
- Disability insurance account number
- State unemployment tax rate
- Other agency registration numbers or tax settings
Marking a tax parameter as Applied For allows the company to indicate that the application is in progress instead of entering an incorrect or temporary value.
Can Payroll Be Processed While a Tax ID Is Applied For? #
In many cases, payroll can still be processed while a tax ID is marked Applied For. However, the missing information should be provided as soon as it is received.
Missing tax IDs or registration information may eventually affect:
- Tax payments
- Tax return filings
- Agency account matching
- Tax notices
- Filing deadlines
- Penalties and interest
- Friday’s ability to file or pay taxes accurately
The company remains responsible for completing its tax registrations and providing the correct information.
What Is the Report Used For? #
Use the Applied for Tax Parameters Report to:
- Identify missing state or local tax account numbers
- Track tax registrations that are still in progress
- Follow up on applications submitted to tax agencies
- Confirm which jurisdictions still need information
- Prevent delayed tax payments or filings
- Review tax setup before quarterly or year-end filings
- Provide missing registration information to Friday
- Assist accountants, bookkeepers, or payroll administrators with tax setup
How the Report Is Organized #
Each line represents a tax parameter that has been marked Applied For.
A company may appear multiple times if it is waiting for more than one tax ID or registration. For example, a company may be waiting for:
- A state withholding account number
- A state unemployment account number
- A local tax registration number
Each missing item may appear as a separate record.
Information Included in the Report #
The exact columns may vary, but the report may include:
| Column | Description |
| ————– | —————————————————————————— |
| Company ID | The unique identifier for the company |
| Company Name | The company’s legal or display name |
| Jurisdiction | The federal, state, or local jurisdiction connected to the missing information |
| Tax Parameter | The name of the tax ID, registration, rate, or setting |
| Applied For | Indicates that the company has applied but has not yet received the value |
| Effective Date | The date the tax parameter or setting became applicable, when available |
| Tax | The tax connected to the missing parameter |
| Agency | The tax agency responsible for issuing the registration or account number |
| Status | The current status of the requirement, when available |
Company #
The Company fields identify the business connected to the missing tax registration. This may include the company ID, company name, or legal name.
Jurisdiction #
The Jurisdiction column identifies the location connected to the tax registration.
Examples include:
- Federal
- New York
- New Jersey
- California
- A city or local tax jurisdiction
A company may have tax requirements in multiple jurisdictions based on:
- Employee work locations
- Company locations
- Employee home addresses
- State nexus
- Local tax requirements
Tax Parameter #
The Tax Parameter identifies the specific information the company has applied for.
Examples include:
- Employer withholding account number
- Unemployment insurance account number
- Unemployment tax rate
- Local tax ID
- Paid leave account number
- Disability insurance account number
- Employer registration number
The report does not necessarily mean the company has not started the registration process. It means the final value has not yet been entered into Friday.
Applied For Status #
An Applied For status generally means:
- The company is required to provide a tax parameter.
- The company does not yet have the value.
- The company indicated that an application was submitted.
- Friday is waiting for the company to provide the final value.
Once the company receives the tax ID or account information, the Applied For status should be replaced with the actual value.
Why Is Providing the Tax ID Important? #
Tax agencies use employer tax IDs and registration numbers to connect payments and filings to the correct company account.
If an account number is missing or incorrect:
- A payment may not be applied correctly
- A filing may be rejected
- A return may be filed under incomplete information
- The company may receive a tax notice
- The agency may assess penalties or interest
- Friday may be unable to complete a filing
- Additional corrections or amendments may be required
Providing the information promptly helps Friday file and pay taxes accurately.
What Should I Do After Receiving the Tax ID? #
Once the agency provides the account number or tax information:
- Log in to Friday.
- Go to Settings.
- Open the company’s payroll or tax settings.
- Select the applicable state or jurisdiction.
- Locate the tax parameter marked Applied For.
- Enter the account number, registration number, or tax rate.
- Confirm the effective date, if requested.
- Save the updated information.
If you are unsure where to enter the information, contact Friday Support.
What If I Have Not Applied Yet? #
Do not mark a tax parameter as Applied For unless an application has actually been submitted to the agency.
If the company is required to register but has not applied yet:
- Contact the applicable tax agency.
- Complete the employer registration.
- Keep confirmation that the application was submitted.
- Mark the item Applied For in Friday, when applicable.
- Enter the final tax ID once it is received.
Friday generally cannot complete the company’s agency registration unless a separate registration service has been arranged.
How Long Does It Take to Receive a Tax ID? #
Processing times vary by agency and jurisdiction.
Some registrations may be completed immediately online, while others may take several days or weeks.
Friday cannot control how quickly a government agency issues an account number.
The company should follow up directly with the agency if the expected processing time has passed.
Tax IDs vs. Tax Rates #
Some tax parameters are account numbers, while others may be tax rates or other payroll settings.
Tax ID or Account Number #
This identifies the company’s account with the agency.
Examples include:
- State withholding ID
- Unemployment account number
- Local employer account number
Tax Rate #
This tells Friday which rate to use when calculating a tax.
Examples include:
- State unemployment insurance rate
- Re-employment tax rate
- Workforce development rate
A company may receive the account number and tax rate separately. Make sure both are entered when required.
Why Does the Same Company Appear Multiple Times? #
A company may appear multiple times because it has more than one tax parameter marked Applied For.
This may happen when the company:
- Operates in multiple states
- Has employees in different jurisdictions
- Needs separate withholding and unemployment accounts
- Is waiting for both an account number and tax rate
- Has multiple local tax registrations
Review each record separately.
Does This Report Show All Missing Tax Information? #
The report focuses on tax parameters specifically marked as Applied For. It may not include:
- Tax information that was never entered
- A registration that was not marked Applied For
- Incorrect values already entered
- Tax agency notices
- Filing blocks unrelated to tax parameters
- Employee withholding forms
- Tax payment failures
Other tax setup requirements may need to be reviewed separately.
