1099 Contractor Onboarding Guide #

Objective: To provide a clear, step-by-step guide for independent contractors to complete their onboarding via the Friday platform.

Accept Your Digital Invitation #

  • Locate the Email: Look for an email with the subject line “1099 Invite” in your inbox.
  • Initiate: Open the email and click the Accept Invite button.
  • Tip: If the email does not appear in your inbox within a few minutes, please check your Spam or Promotions folder.

Account Security Setup #

  • Secure Redirect: You will be routed to a secure registration page.
  • Create Password: Establish a strong, unique password.
  • Confirm: Re-enter your password to verify and click Continue to move to your profile setup.

General Information #

Enter your professional contact details exactly as they appear on your legal documents:

  • Address: Provide your full residential or business street address, city, state, and zip code.
  • Contact Details: Enter your primary mobile number.
  • Entity Type: Select whether you are onboarding as an Individual (Sole Proprietor/Single-member LLC) or a Business (Multi-member LLC/Corporation).

Tax Identification (TIN) #

Based on your selection in the previous step, provide the required tax identifier:

  • For Individuals: Enter your Social Security Number (SSN) and specify your primary work state.
  • For Businesses: Enter your Legal Business Name and Employer Identification Number (EIN).

Payment Method Configuration #

Designate how you would like to receive your compensation:

  • Direct Deposit: Enter your bank’s routing and account numbers for secure, automated transfers.
  • Manual Payment: Select “Manually by Employer” if you have coordinated with the company to receive physical checks.
  • Save: Click Continue to lock in your preferences.

Digital W-9 Submission #

Complete the digital W-9 form to ensure IRS compliance:

  • Trade Name: Provide a DBA (Doing Business As) name if applicable.
  • Exemptions: Complete the FATCA reporting or Exempt Payee sections only if they apply to your specific tax classification.
  • Sign & Submit: Review the auto-populated data for accuracy, digitally sign the document, and click Submit.

Finalization & Dashboard Access #

  • Onboarding Complete: Once submitted, your status will update to “Fully Onboarded.”
  • Portal Access: You can now access your dashboard to view payment history, download year-end 1099-NEC forms, and use time-tracking features (if enabled by your client).

Critical Requirements #

  • Tax Record Alignment: Ensure your SSN or EIN matches your IRS records exactly. Discrepancies may trigger “B-Notices,” resulting in mandatory backup withholding or payment delays.
  • Data Security: Always use a private network when entering sensitive tax information.
  • Preparation: Have your banking details and tax identifiers ready before starting to avoid session timeouts.
