Happy Sunday! Welcome back to SUNDAYS & BUSINESS, This week features Sara Tyberg from The Document Docs with 3 easy to implement tips on how to Write Your Own Resume.

What's in it for them?

Focus on how you can help the employer. Give them a reason to hire you, beyond "furthering your own career" or "utilizing your skills". Showcase what you've done in the past and how you've advanced the companies you've worked for. This tells them what you are capable of accomplishing and increases your chances of getting that interview.

Knock their socks off right away.

Studies show that busy employers (or recruiters) will consider your resume for 6 seconds before passing judgment. Make your resume visually appealing, clear, and ATS compliant. Gear it towards a specific position or direction. Highlight your top talents, accomplishments, and standout sections like Summary, Skills, and Achievements upfront.

Use specific and simple wording.

Specific numbers lead to trust and are way more believable. List accomplishments with numbers, facts, and details wherever possible. Fancy and high vocabulary words beyond regular industry terms will not help your case; use terms that are easily understood. This is especially important in technical work, where the hiring manager/boss is often not an expert in the profession.
