Internet Reliability
Voice over IP (VoIP) phones ride over the internet. It is important to choose a reliable internet circuit to ensure the best voice quality. A slow internet connection will cause static and garbling. An unsteady connection will cause call dropping.
Network Consideration
IP phones are vulnerable to hacking. A proper firewall is imperative for protection. On a simple level, hacking can present itself as a constant ringing to the phone. On a larger scale, phones can be set to call forward internationally.
Redundancy
Many VoIP providers run their systems off DIY servers in their basements (no exaggeration). Before you sign off on VoIP phone service verify that your provider is set up properly in a data center with redundancy in case of failure.
